Novel Bioreversible Prodrugs of Clodronate

Abstract

Clodronate (1) belongs to family of bisphosphonates which are used to inhibit mineralization of soft tissues as well as bone formation and resorption disorders.[I] The clinical use of bisphosphonates is limited due to their poor bióvailability which is mostly attributed to their hydrophilic structure. More lipophilic molecules are obtained if some or all of the anionic sites are converted to covalent bonds. We herein report a new prodrug serie for clodronate: the anhydrides 2 and 3. Previously we have reported that the simple alkyl esters 4 do not release clodronate via chemical or enzymatic hydrolysis.[2] The prepared new derivatives are stable in water (pH 5–7.5) but clodronate isrelased rapidly with enzymatic hydrolysis.     

Ultrasonic Irradiation in Enantioselective Hydrogenation of 1-Phenyl-1,2-Propanedione

In the presence of ultrasound both the initial hydrogenation rate of 1-phenyl-1,2- propanedione and the enantiomeric excess of the main product, i.e. (R)-1-hydroxy- 1-phenylpropanone, increased by 75 % and 52 % in toluene, respectively, as compared to the silent hydrogenation.

Average homogeneity and dimensions of measures

We introduce the concept of average homogeneity of a measure by comparing the measure to the uniform distribution in a relatively simple way. This leads to a very general notion which may be regarded as an inverse of porosity. In this paper the emphasis is given to relations between homogeneity and dimensions of measures. First we consider the effect of homogeneity on dimensions by proving an upper bound to the Hausdorff dimension as a function of homogeneity and its order. The opposite question of how dimensions effect homogeneity is solved by giving an upper bound to homogeneity in terms of upper packing dimension. Magnetic geometry and the confinement of electrically conducting plasmas

We develop an effective field theory approach to inspect the electromagnetic interactions in an electrically neutral plasma, with an equal number of negative and positive charge carriers. We argue that the static equilibrium configurations within the plasma are topologically stable solitons that describe knotted and linked flux tubes of helical magnetic fields.
